  15. Installation
  16. ------------

  18. Copy all files from the release disk into a new directory (eg. KITHKIN) on
  19. your hard disk.
  20.  
  21. Run KITHKIN.EXE from the File Manager or create a new program item in the
  22. Program Manager and double click on the Kith and Kin icon.
  23. You can launch Kith and Kin from a Tree File (.TRE) if you have associated
  24. .TRE files with KITHKIN.EXE in the File Manager.
  25. The program (.EXE), help (.HLP) and options (.OPT/.INI) files must all
  26. reside in the same directory.

  28. The files BWCC.DLL and SS_DATE.DLL should reside in either the KITHKIN or
  29. WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories or in another directory in your PATH. Since
  30. BWCC.DLL is a common DLL you may already have it on your system in which
  31. case you need only one copy available.

  41. Date validation. All entered dates are checked using the "Input format"
  42. selected in Options|Preferences.

  44. Baptism and burial fields added to person data.

  46. Two user-defined fields added to person data. Description of each field is
  47. entered in Options|Preferences.

  49. Divorce field added to family data.

  137. This product is SHAREWARE. The version on this release disk is a fully
  138. functional evaluation copy which you may install and use free of charge
  139. for 30 days. After that time, if you wish to continue using the program you
  140. must become a registered user. Details of how to register are available in
  141. the on-line help.
  142. If you have been using an earlier version of Kith and Kin some of your tree
  143. (.TRE) and options (.OPT) files may require conversion before they can be
  144. used with this version. A data file conversion program is included with all
  145. registered versions of Kith and Kin.

  161. "Getting Started". This will lead you through the basics.

  164. well as providing context-sensitive help direct from Kith and Kin, it
  165. contains all the technical information about the program, usage tips and
  166. details on how to register in an easy-to-use format. Please make extensive
  167. use of it, you will find it very useful.

  169. The file KITHKIN.TXT is an extract of KITHKIN.HLP in text format which you
  170. may send straight to your printer. For example, you can do this in DOS using
  171. the command "type kithkin.txt > prn".
